OpenAI\u00a0is expanding the uses of its coding agent for fields beyond software engineering.<\/p>\n

The company\u00a0announced\u00a0Tuesday (June 2) that it is rolling out new plugins for its Codex agent designed for jobs in public equity investment, banking and sales, with plans to add features related to legal, marketing strategy and corporate finance down the road.<\/p>\n

In addition, the artificial intelligence firm says it is working on an \u201copen ecosystem\u201d that lets partners develop and deploy their own plugins directly within Codex and OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT bot.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than 5 million people now use Codex every week,\u201d the company said. \u201cCodex started as a\u00a0tool for software development, but it\u2019s increasingly useful for more kinds of work. Non-developers\u2014including analysts, marketers, operators, designers, researchers, investors, and bankers\u2014make up about 20% of overall Codex users\u2060 and are growing more than 3x as fast as developers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month saw reports that OpenAI had generated nearly $6 billion in first-quarter revenue due in part to Codex, business sales and tests of advertising on ChatGPT.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe numbers show how quickly OpenAI is turning AI usage into revenue,\u201d PYMNTS wrote. \u201cThey also show how the business is shifting. ChatGPT remains the company\u2019s consumer anchor, but Codex and\u00a0enterprise AI\u00a0are becoming more important growth engines.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is happening as a growing share of U.S. hourly workers are encountering AI on the job before they feel prepared for it, as recent PYMNTS Intelligence research has shown.<\/p>\n

That study,\u00a0\u201cThe Resilience Deficit: Labor Workers in an Automated Economy,\u201d\u00a0looks at how automation is reshaping confidence, job security and financial resilience for Labor Economy workers, or hourly workers earning up to $25 an hour and generally less than $50,000 per year.<\/p>\n
