Nearly one-third of colleges students feel \u201cnervous\u201d or \u201canxious\u201d about AI\u2019s impact on their future career.<\/span><\/p>\n

College students may use AI-powered tools almost daily, but their anxiety and anger over the technology\u2019s swift intrusion into their lives is taking center stage this graduation season. <\/p>\n

At the University of Central Florida\u2019s commencement ceremony in Orlando earlier this month, students cheered when the featured speaker\u2014investment executive Gloria Caulfield\u2014reminded them that \u201cOnly a few years ago, AI was not a factor in our lives.\u201d But those cheers quickly devolved into boos when she declared that \u201cthe rise of artificial intelligence is the next industrial revolution.\u201d <\/p>\n

Last weekend, a similar scene unfolded at the University of Arizona in Tucson when Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, told some 10,000 new college graduates that he sympathized with their fears that \u201cthe machines are coming, the jobs are evaporating, that the climate is breaking, that politics are fractured\u201d\u2014but they must adapt to an AI-powered world nevertheless. \u201cThe question is not whether AI will shape the world. It will,\u201d Schmidt said as the audience jeered. \u201cThe question is whether you will have shaped artificial intelligence.” <\/p>\n

And just two hours north at Glendale Community College outside Phoenix, students voiced their disappointment and frustration after an AI-powered system that was supposed to announce the graduates as they walked across the stage mixed up or skipped hundreds of their names. <\/p>\n

But the Class of 2026\u2019s hostile reactions to AI aren\u2019t happening in a vacuum. The AI-related outbursts at graduation ceremonies this month embody a deeper, generational resentment over coming of age in a…<\/p>\n
