Google I\/O is less than a day away, and the annual software showcase would be the perfect opportunity for Google and its partners to showcase their 2026 Android XR tech: the XR glasses we\u2019ve been promised will land this year.<\/p>\n

Google isn\u2019t a stranger to smart specs, but since the rapid rise and fall of Google Glass, we\u2019ve seen the likes of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses take the smart specs world by storm, and now the old king wants his crown back. But with Google taking a software-centric approach \u2014 letting others handle the hardware \u2014 it makes sense that this new generation of smart glasses would land at a software show like I\/O.<\/p>\n

So from Xreal and Samsung, to Gucci and Gentle Monster, here are the three smart glasses announcements we\u2019ll hopefully see on May 19 \u2014 and why you should get excited.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get Xreal<\/h2>\n

I love Xreal\u2019s specs, and have done for a while \u2014 if you want a pair of XR glasses you\u2019ll struggle to beat the Xreal One Pros. So I\u2019m especially excited to see the final version of its Project Aura Android XR glasses, and they\u2019re also the pair we\u2019re most likely to find at Google I\/O (because unlike Samsung, Xreal doesn\u2019t have a high profile tech events of its own in the calendar).<\/p>\n

The big difference between Xreal\u2019s Aura glasses and some other AI smart glasses we\u2019ve been seeing is they\u2019ll be wired. This matches Xreal\u2019s XR approach with previous models and offers some design advantages, but also some constraints.<\/p>\n

With no internal battery the Project Aura glasses should feel lighter and less bulky, but they\u2019ll need to run from a connected device (in Aura\u2019s case that\u2019s a dedicated compute puck that doubles as a trackpad and a battery pack) plus they\u2019ll be best suited to stationary activities (working, and watching TV) rather than using them…<\/p>\n
