Each features adjustable desk heights and lighting, fans for comfort, electrical outlets, and charging stations. Transparent walls and camera surveillance make users visible for security purposes.

In addition to a quiet study space, the pods offer a place where patrons can join video meetings or take phone calls, such as those for job interviews or telehealth appointments, TPL Executive Director Olivia Poulton said. They solve the problem of the library’s meeting room being frequently booked and unavailable.

TPL also has laptop computers available to borrow, so anyone with a library card can access all they need to work in a personal “office” free of charge. Patrons can reserve a study pod via the library’s website or in person.

Purchase and installation of the pods was funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The grant also paid for new computers, including top-shelf e-sports computers, for the library.

For more information, call the library at 903-794-2149 or visit txklibrary.aspendiscovery.org.

New private, soundproof study pods are seen Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Texarkana Public Library in Texarkana, Texas.
