The main takeaways from this week’s Winning Edge webinar on bolstering clinical technology include how to use an electronic health record to standardize clinical pathways, how to use EHR alerts and prompts to reduce waste in clinical care, and best practices for remote patient monitoring.<\/p>\n

Integrating new technology into clinical care such as AI tools poses several challenges for health systems, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. This week’s Winning Edge webinar focused on best practices for adopting and implementing clinical technology to rise to these challenges.<\/p>\n

The webinar, which was titled “The Winning Edge for Bolstering Clinical Technology,” featured a two-member panel of experts: Eric Lee<\/strong>, MD, medical director of clinical informatics at AltaMed Health Services<\/strong>, and Lori Walker<\/strong>, MSN, chief medical information officer at Presbyterian Healthcare Services <\/strong>(PHS).<\/p>\n

Using an EHR to Standardize Clinical Pathways<\/h3>\n

Efforts to use an EHR to standardize clinical pathways should start with high-impact medical conditions such as congestive heart failure, according to Walker. Focusing on high-impact medical conditions has several benefits, including the ability to draw on mature and evidence-based clinical guidelines and the opportunity to set appropriate defaults by working with payers and other partners, Walker said.\n<\/p>\n

Part of establishing standardized clinical pathways in an EHR should include clinical decision support, Walker explained. For example, clinical decision support in the EHR can suggest a particular order set at a specific time in a patient’s care, Walker said.<\/p>\n
