ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 Orange County Public Schools has announced a recent \u201ccybersecurity incident\u201d involving Instructure, the company that provides the district\u2019s Canvas learning management system.<\/p>\n

In a release, district officials said that Instructure had confirmed on May 2 that an \u201cunauthorized third party gained access to certain user data within its systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to Instructure, the information accessed may include names, email addresses, and student identification numbers,\u201d the release reads. \u201cThey also indicated that some private messages sent within the platform may have been accessed.\u201d<\/p>\n

That said, the district assured that Instructure reported no evidence of passwords, Social Security numbers, birth dates, or any financial information being involved in the incident.<\/p>\n

Now, the district is reviewing the situation and following all recommended security protocols provided by Instructure, the release shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease remain vigilant and be cautious of emails containing unexpected or questionable content, as they may be phishing attempts,\u201d the release continues. \u201cReport these messages immediately and delete them.\u201d<\/p>\n
