We\u2019re just under two weeks out from Google I\/O 2026, which means we\u2019re pretty close to learning what Google has in store for fans of everything from Android to Gemini and beyond. The company is planning its typical keynote address to kick things off on May 19 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif. It\u2019s a sure bet that AI will feature prominently with updates to Gemini, but we also expect to hear much more about Android 17 and other bits and bobs Google has been working on.<\/p>\n

So what are we expecting to see at this year\u2019s Google I\/O? Here\u2019s what we currently anticipate.<\/p>\n

What to expect at Google I\/O 2026<\/h2>\n

Google has kept things fairly quiet this year, and leaks haven\u2019t exactly been plentiful. However, we can make some educated guesses on what we\u2019ll see at Google I\/O 2026 based on the company\u2019s current priorities and past I\/O keynotes. Google\u2019s initial I\/O 2026 announcement also gives us a few minor hints, saying to expect updates on everything \u201cfrom Gemini to Android, Chrome, Cloud, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gemini AI features and improvements<\/h3>\n

Every major tech company is all-in on AI, from deploying their own models to building AI developer tools. Google has been one of the most prominent names in the game with its Gemini models, and we expect to hear a lot about what\u2019s new for Gemini and AI tools for developers at I\/O 2026.<\/p>\n

While we can\u2019t be sure exactly what Google has in store for AI announcements during its keynote, one prominent area in the industry lately is the rise of agentic AI \u2014 or discrete AI tools that can perform complex, multi-step tasks without a lot of human oversight. We expect Google may have some announcements to make around agentic AI to complement the work it\u2019s already doing there.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also probably see some sort of update on Gemini capabilities and Google\u2019s Veo image generator. Last year, Google announced AI mode for search, Veo 3, Gemini in Chrome, AI speech translation in Google Meet, and…<\/p>\n
