DUNMORE, Pa. \u2013 Penn State Scranton is highlighting the campus’ student marshals who will lead their fellow graduates during the 58th commencement ceremony procession on May 9 at The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple. In this series, we will feature students selected as marshals for their academic programs. Join us as we explore their academic journeys, insights and advice for future students.<\/p>\n

Student Marshal<\/strong>: Courtney Nelson<\/p>\n

Major<\/strong>: Information Technology (IT), B.S., Business Applications Option<\/p>\n

Q: What are your post-grad plans?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nelson:<\/strong> I am hoping to find employment within the area; I have applied to a few places and have an interview arranged with a promising company. Depending on my schedule, I may begin volunteering at a local animal shelter.<\/p>\n

Q: What was your favorite memory at Penn State Scranton?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nelson: <\/strong>Although I have many fond memories with my clubs, I believe the most fun experience I had was when the billiards club made a team and went to University Park to play against their team. Traveling to another campus and meeting other people who loved the sport was a great experience.<\/p>\n

Q: What was your favorite learning experience?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nelson:<\/strong> My favorite learning experience was the recent soldering event hosted by the IST club. We were able to learn how to solder through radio kits that we also got to keep after completing. It was very exciting to learn something hands-on.<\/p>\n

Q: What experience prepared you the most for what is next?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nelson:<\/strong> My internship has greatly prepared me for employment after college in a tech environment. Not only have I gained connections with people in the area, but I have also experienced working in a team-based environment.<\/p>\n

Q: Who at Penn State Scranton has supported you and how?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nelson: <\/strong>All my professors, classmates and clubmates have supported me immensely. The professors have always answered my questions, both regarding class and life. My classmates have always helped when I ask, and my fellow club members have always…<\/p>\n
