Last Thursday evening, a candidate forum for the five contenders in the Croton-Harmon Board of Education election on May 19\u2014in which three trustee seats are up for grabs\u2014drew a standing room only crowd to the Parish Hall of St. Augustine\u2019s Episcopal Church in Croton. <\/p>\n

The event was hosted by the <\/span>Croton Community Collective, a group of parents and teachers founded in June 2025 by local teacher Jill Anderson, and which now counts about 320 members. The group\u2019s focus, on technology in the schools and especially the potential harms of cell phones and other screen devices to children of all ages, has <\/span>made it sometimes controversial, and caused some defensiveness among district officials and teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, all five candidates quickly accepted and showed up for the forum, which turned out to be intense, lively, and\u2014in our view\u2014at a high pedagogical and intellectual level.<\/p>\n

Rather than provide a summary of the discussion and the responses to the six questions posed to the candidates\u2014which had been condensed and collated from about 120 questions the CCC received from community members\u2014we will leave it to those interested in the detailed conversation to view the video, which is now online and which we have embedded below.<\/p>\n

However, the questions put to the candidates were at times as interesting as the answers, and so perhaps the best service we can perform is to put them here all in one place (with thanks to the CCC organizers for providing them.)<\/p>\n
