A week after reports said that Apple\u2019s Mac Mini vanished after a sudden surge in AI demand amid a tightening supply chain, it has sparked a massive, overpriced resale market on eBay. The sudden demand is largely attributed to the rise of on-device AI. Developers and hobbyists have discovered that the M4 chip\u2019s power efficiency and unified memory make it a nearly perfect engine for running local AI models.According to a report by TechCrunch, while the \u201cOpenClaw\u201d model started the trend, the demand has expanded to alternatives like ZeroClaw and Perplexity Computer.
