Victor\u00a0Rattner\u2019s journey began at\u00a0Augusta University\u2019s legacy institution,\u00a0Augusta College, where he pursued his bachelor\u2019s degree in computer science. A\u00a0diving accident left him a quadriplegic, but he powered through despite his challenges,\u00a0maintaining\u00a0a\u00a0positive\u00a0attitude\u00a0and\u00a0refusing\u00a0to let his disability define him.\u00a0He\u00a0excelled\u00a0in computer science and\u00a0went on to graduate and also earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1994. He retired after a successful career in information technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His legacy lives on\u00a0at the\u00a0School of Computer and Cyber Sciences\u00a0through a $2.4 million\u00a0scholarship\u00a0endowment,\u00a0established\u00a0by\u00a0Rattner and his mother Lillian. The\u00a0recipients are full-time SCCS students\u00a0selected by the school. Recipient\u00a0selection\u00a0is based on merit\u00a0and\/or\u00a0financial need, with preference given to students\u00a0who have a physical disability.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0\u202fLillian P. & Victor Rattner Scholarship\u00a0ceremony\u00a0was\u00a0held\u00a0April 14\u00a0at the\u00a0Georgia Cyber Center\u00a0at Augusta University. Scholarships were awarded to\u00a018\u00a0students.\u00a0The scholarship covers expenses including tuition, course\u00a0materials and room\u00a0and board, allowing recipients to focus fully on their academic goals without the financial burden.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe award these scholarships to our hard-working students who are focused on their progress\u00a0in our\u00a0rigorous programs.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0very proud\u00a0of\u00a0your\u00a0success,\u201d said\u00a0Alexander Schwarzmann, PhD, dean of the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.\u00a0\u201cWe\u00a0know\u00a0our programs in\u00a0computer and cyber sciences are\u00a0very strong\u00a0and our faculty\u00a0are highly ranked.\u00a0But\u00a0this would be meaningless\u00a0without\u00a0the success of students like you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
