NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) \u2014 <\/span>The former White House artificial intelligence lead tells FOX17 News healthcare is one industry that could see some of the biggest changes in the AI age.<\/p>\n

Dr. Lynne Parker was the deputy director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from 2018 to 2022. That spans two very different administrations. FOX17 News Johnny Maffei caught up with Parker at the AI Tennessee Summit to talk about changes that come with AI and how it impacts jobs and your wallet.<\/p>\n

Doctors and nurses can use AI to help with patient preparation and sift through medical records, according to Parker.<\/p>\n

During a time where patients are losing patience with long wait times, Experity Health chief medical officer Andrea Giamalva says AI can help doctors and nurses use the full extent of their medical license.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeyond just streamlining the pre-visit process and saying, \u2018here\u2019s your patient in a nutshell,\u2019 there\u2019s also AI scribe technology, to be able to capture the entire note, and you\u2019ve taken that burden off the shoulders of the provider to now have to re-hash and re-remember every visit and allow that technology to do that documentation on your behalf,\u201d Giamalva explains to Maffei.<\/p>\n

FOX17 News has been following long waits for care in Middle Tennessee for months. Healthcare networks are doing different things to try to meet the demand, but studies show primary care teams don\u2019t have enough time in the day to handle its patient load, so other solutions are necessary. https:\/\/fox17.com\/news\/local\/physicians-dont-have-enough-hours-in-the-day-as-patients-balance-urgent-care-options<\/p>\n

We also asked Giamalva what happens if AI streamlines things too much and doctors experience burnout from high patient loads. She says teams will have to find a happy medium. She also says humans should be making final decisions.<\/p>\n
