There\u2019s an iPhone Fold unboxing video doing the rounds, and at first glance it does look rather convincing, with none of the usual signs immediately pointing to an AI-generated fake.<\/p>\n

However, there\u2019s one rather large giveaway that it\u2019s not the real thing, and that provides a clue as to how it was produced \u2026<\/p>\n

Indie developer Victor Saralev is one of those who shared it, but he isn\u2019t its creator. Indeed, he himself says he\u2019s sure it\u2019s fake.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure this video is fake, but this is the one that went viral across the internet.<\/p>\n

There are three ways to create a fake unboxing video like this, the first being a 3D-printed dummy device.<\/p>\n

Certain Chinese smartphone brands are well-known for copying the design of new iPhone models, but there\u2019s also an entire micro-industry in China devoted to creating realistic-looking mockups of upcoming Apple devices. With sometimes insane levels of finish, and every bit as much work put into the packaging, 3D-printed dummy devices based on leaked details are readily available within the country.<\/p>\n

Second, of course, is AI. While that can\u2019t be ruled out here, it doesn\u2019t have any of the typical telltale signs and looks a little too high quality to be an AI video.<\/p>\n

Third, that it was digitally created by a talented designer using 3D rendering software.<\/p>\n

The most obvious clue to it being fake is the difference in the screen layout when viewed from in front and behind. The rear view shows a large gap between the sides, while the unfolded view has no such gap. It\u2019s also notable that we never see it turned over in the video, which would be a very obvious thing to show.<\/p>\n

The inconsistency between front and rear views would seem to rule out a physical mock-up, so I\u2019m guessing a talented visual artist is behind this \u2013 with or without some AI assistance.<\/p>\n
