Pope Leo XIV has urged Catholic priests to resist the \u201ctemptation\u201d to use artificial intelligence to write sermons.<\/p>\n

The Chicago-born pontiff,<\/strong> who is the first head of the Catholic Church to hail from the United States, also urged his fellow clergymen to \u201cuse your brains more.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pope made the remarks during a closed-door meeting with the clergy of the Diocese of Rome on February 19. The details of the meeting, in which the pope took questions from priests, were unsealed the next day and reported by Vatican News.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the pope told listeners that giving a \u201chomily is to share faith,\u201d before arguing that artificial intelligence \u201cwill never be able to share faith.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike all the muscles in the body, if we do not use them, if we do not move them, they die,\u201d he warned. \u201cThe brain needs to be used, so our intelligence must also be exercised a little so as not to lose this capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 70-year-old also took aim at social media platforms and asked members of the clergy to be mindful about chasing \u201clikes\u201d and \u201cfollowers\u201d through an \u201cillusion on the internet, on TikTok.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pope Leo XIV often weighs in on world politics, even choosing his papal name because of his views on artificial intelligence and the name\u2019s historical connotations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were many reasons, but mainly Pope Leo XIII, who, in his historic encyclical Rerum Novarum, addressed the social question in the context of the first great industrial revolution,\u201d Leo said last year, according to Vatican News.<\/p>\n
