For many years, Windows has been considered the dominant operating system, particularly in the gaming sector, where it has long been the top choice for most users. However, this dominance seems to be gradually waning. According to Steam\u2019s latest hardware survey, the share of Windows users has declined, while at the same time more and more users are switching to Linux.<\/p>\n

Specifically, the Windows share fell from an initial 96.61% by 4.28 percentage points to 92.33%. Linux, on the other hand, saw significant growth: with an increase of 3.10 percentage points, it now stands at 5.33%, surpassing the 5% mark for the first time. macOS also recorded slight growth of 1.19 percentage points to a total of 2.35%, but remains a comparatively small niche segment. The strong growth in Linux is notable, though the exact reasons for it are unclear. It is conceivable that some users are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with Microsoft. Reasons could include problematic updates or the increased integration of AI features. While Windows remains dominant, this small trend is noticeable. However, these are all just speculations, and future Steam surveys will need to provide more insight.<\/p>\n

Significant changes are also evident in the hardware sector. For instance, the share of systems with 32 GB of RAM has declined sharply. With a drop of 20.31 percentage points, it now stands at 36.62%. Conversely, the 16-GB category gained 13.50 percentage points and now stands at 40.97%. One possible reason for this shift is the current high prices for memory, which is why many users are opting for the more affordable 16 GB option. This trend is also reflected in total storage capacity, as only 50.11% of respondents now have more than 1 TB of storage, representing a decline of 19.98%.
