BOZEMAN \u2014 Did you know more than 1,500 hundred cybersecurity jobs were available in Montana in 2025?<\/p>\n

According to MSU, that number is expected to keep growing \u2013 which is why a $50,000 grant received by Gallatin College to teach high schoolers about cybersecurity is so important.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really fun, and it\u2019s hands on and you learn so much and you can actually use it outside of class,\u201d said Abigail Hofer.<\/p>\n

Abigail is a homeschooled senior in high school who lives in Bozeman. She says she has always had a passion for technology.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt home, I\u2019ve always been known as the \u2018tech girl \u2018and any problems with like technology, I try to fix,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why she\u2019s taking cybersecurity courses through Gallatin College.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of hands on, and it\u2019s really practical,\u201d said Abigail. \u201cFor me, I\u2019m a visual learner, so the hands on is just, like, it\u2019s so much easier for it to stick.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Program Director of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at
Gallatin College Ronda Black explains, hands-on learning is exactly the goal of the $50,000 Cybersecurity Pathways Grant from Montana\u2019s Future at Work program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis grant has given me the opportunity to get in those high schools and be able to offer educators across Montana a tool that does not exist at this point in time,\u201d said Black.<\/p>\n

Black says cybersecurity, the practice of protecting systems and data from digital attacks, is a field that\u2019s broader than most people realize.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people think, \u2018it\u2019s just coding and I don\u2019t want to code.\u2019 And I love the fact that I can go in there and be like, \u2018this is not coding,\u2019 said Black. \u201cDo you play with computers? Do you play with gadgets? Do you like figuring things out? If so, you\u2019re going to love this…<\/p>\n
