at Anthropic has people talking,<\/p>\n

after the full source code<\/p>\n

for Claude Code was accidentally leaked to the public.<\/p>\n

And no, this is not an April Fool’s joke.<\/p>\n

By Tuesday morning, the leak was still accessible<\/p>\n

and security researcher Chaofun Shou reported it<\/p>\n

and flagged it publicly on X.<\/p>\n

He discovered that the file pointed<\/p>\n

to a zip archive on Anthropic’s own cloud storage<\/p>\n

containing the full source code with nearly 2000 files<\/p>\n

and 500,000 lines of code.<\/p>\n

Based on the code shared on GitHub,<\/p>\n

the leak appeared after an apparent internal debugging file<\/p>\n

was accidentally published<\/p>\n

as part of a regular Claude Code update.<\/p>\n

From there, it spread quickly.<\/p>\n

The code was rapidly backed up on GitHub,<\/p>\n

where a repository has already been<\/p>\n

forked over 41,500 times,<\/p>\n

spreading it widely and turning Anthropic’s slipup<\/p>\n

into a resource for the AI and cybersecurity world.<\/p>\n

While parts of Claude Code have previously<\/p>\n

been reverse engineered,<\/p>\n

this is the most widespread view into the AI system so far,<\/p>\n

and it’s not the first Anthropic leak either.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year,<\/p>\n

a misconfigured data store<\/p>\n

exposed nearly 3000 internal files,<\/p>\n

including unpublished blog posts, PDFs<\/p>\n

and memos that reveal details<\/p>\n

of Anthropic’s unreleased Claude Mythos model.<\/p>\n

Anthropic confirmed the leak in a statement<\/p>\n

to Business Insider saying the release had unintentionally<\/p>\n

included internal source code,<\/p>\n

but no sensitive customer data or credentials were exposed.<\/p>\n

The company described it as a packaging error caused<\/p>\n

by human mistake, not a security breach,<\/p>\n

and said it’s implementing measures to prevent a repeat.<\/p>\n
