PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WSBT) \u2014 <\/span>A local physician is using artificial intelligence to write you a prescription right from your smartphone.<\/p>\n

The website helps decide if you should go to the ER, and it can write a doctor’s note for any infections it diagnoses in just a few minutes.<\/p>\n

If you’re feeling signs of an infection, you can now take out your phone, describe what you feel, and get a virtual prescription from a doctor within minutes.<\/p>\n

“And so literally a patient could be at their work break at their job, on their phone and accomplish their visit with us via chat. No audio visuals, but via chat. You get the prescription sent to their pharmacy on their break,” said Dr. Tod Stillson, ChatRx On Demand Urgent Care founder<\/p>\n

Physician Tod Stillson created the site to keep people from unnecessary and expensive trips to the ER. <\/p>\n

After 30 years of treating patients in Plymouth, he now runs his practice from home, where AI uses his signature to write prescriptions and make health assessments. <\/p>\n

“For the things that aren’t, for the things that are emergent, for the things that need an in-person exam, we’ll tell you that for free. And that’s how we triage,” said Stillson.<\/p>\n

The system only prescribes medication for 39 infections. <\/p>\n

After a quick Q &A, the system makes a final decision, and if you do have one of the infections, it downloads a doctor’s note for your school or work. <\/p>\n

Stillson says information is kept secure just as it would be at a brick-and-mortar urgent care, following HIPAA guidelines. <\/p>\n

WSBT22 asked Stillson if there’s any chance of abusing the medicines prescribed.<\/p>\n

“Risk management, 30 years of experience, which we prescribe antimicrobials. Period. We don’t prescribe any controlled substances. We don’t describe any narcotics, nothing that’s dependent,” said Stillson.<\/p>\n
