First spotted by u/IGameShit on Reddit, the update allows users to control YouTube playback directly from the vehicle interface. However, the feature comes with strict limitations due to safety rules that restrict visual distractions while driving. As a result, YouTube on Android Auto does not work like the regular mobile app. It must be noted that there is no official confirmation or announcement about the feature roll out. Thus, the said information must be viewed with caution.

YouTube works as audio-only on Android Auto

YouTube’s new integration on Android Auto allows users to play, pause, and skip content using media controls. However, YouTube videos playing via Android Auto player will not be played on the car screen. Instead, the platform works like an audio service, similar to music or podcast apps. This means users can listen to content such as podcasts, interviews, or news videos, but cannot watch them while driving. The restriction is in line with Android Auto’s focus on reducing distractions for drivers.

YouTube comes to Android Auto with several limitations

YouTube on Android Auto reportedly has other limitations as well. Users cannot skip forward within a video, and the skip option only moves to the next video. There is also no browsing option visible on the interface, making content selection limited. In addition, YouTube on Android Auto requires background playback support. This means users need a YouTube Premium subscription for the feature to work. Without it, the functionality may not be available. While the update expands YouTube’s presence on in-car systems, its use remains limited to audio playback, keeping safety restrictions in place.

Source

YouTube reportedly rolls out Android Auto support, but with limited features https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/technology/tech-news/youtube-reportedly-rolls-out-android-auto-support-but-with-limited-features/articleshow/129916933.cms Publish Date: 2026-03-31…

https://static.toiimg.com/thumb/msid-129916930,width-1280,height-720,imgsize-39780,resizemode-6,overlay-toi_sw,pt-32,y_pad-600/photo.jpg
[46
70
post-229478","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-android","tag-google
