Mr Olakunle Akintola, has stressed the need to regularly update Nigeria\u2019s data protection and cybersecurity laws to tackle emerging technological threats.\n<\/p>\n<p>Akintola said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Ibadan.\n<\/p>\n<p>He said that although Nigeria had a fairly strong legal framework, rapid technological changes required laws to remain flexible and responsive to new threats and innovations.        <\/p>\n<p>Akintola, a former Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan Branch, called for regular review of the Cybercrimes Act and the Nigeria Data Protection Act to address gaps.\n<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the creation of an expert advisory panel comprising legal professionals, cybersecurity experts, technologists and industry stakeholders to guide lawmakers on emerging trends.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer further recommended the ratification and domestication of more international treaties on cybercrime and data protection, as well as the pursuit of bilateral and multilateral agreements for legal assistance.\n<\/p>\n<p>He added that clear legal frameworks should be developed for cross-border data transfers.        <\/p>\n<p>Akintola stressed the need to ensure adequate protection of Nigerians\u2019 data when processed abroad and vice versa.<br \/>He also urged stronger enforcement capacity and improved institutional mechanisms for effective implementation of relevant laws.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy updating legal frameworks, strengthening enforcement and promoting digital responsibility, Nigeria can address challenges posed by emerging technologies.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will help safeguard national security and protect citizens\u2019 rights in the digital age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria\u2019s regulatory framework has improved, from the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 to the Cybercrimes Act 2015 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, there is a need for
