The tech giant has also reintroduced the single-tap Wi-Fi toggle for quick control. The update finally reverses the not-so-useful design change introduced years ago.

Android 17 Beta 3 brings back single-tap Wi-Fi control toggle

For years, users of Google’s Android operating system dealt with a more complex process to manage Wi-Fi. Starting with Android 12, tapping the Wi-Fi tile no longer toggles the connection directly. Instead, it opened a panel with network options, requiring an extra step to switch Wi-Fi on or off. The design change was also criticized, but the firm took no action until the latest Beta update was released.

The shift turned a simple action into a two-step process. Many users found it inconvenient. The lack of a direct toggle became a consistent complaint, as it slowed down a task performed multiple times daily. However, with Android 17 Beta 3, the single-tap Wi-Fi toggle function finally returns. The users running the latest beta version can finally access a quicker and more intuitive interaction.

The single-tap function is coming soon for stable users

The updated Wi-Fi toggle in Android 17 Beta 3 introduces flexible behavior depending on tile size. In the 2×1 Quick Settings layout, tapping the left side of the tile instantly toggles Wi-Fi. The right side, which displays the connected network, still opens the detailed pop-up with available networks and settings.

For users using the smaller 1×1 tile, the experience is pretty straightforward. A single tap directly enables or disables Wi-Fi, just like older Android versions. A long press continues to open the full Internet settings page. While it’s still in the beta, the redesigned toggle is expected to land on the stable version of the Android 17 operating system. Google is expected to release Android 17 on or before Q3 this year.

Source

Google Brings Back Single-Tap Wi-Fi Toggle in Android 17 Beta 3 Update https://www.androidheadlines.com/2026/03/google-brings-back-single-tap-wi-fi-toggle-in-android-17-beta-3-update.html Publish Date:…

[46
70
post-228289","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-android","tag-google
