Nathaniel Moran (R-Tyler) introduced legislation to deny federal tax incentives to companies that use technology controlled by foreign adversaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Deterring Adversarial Access to Americans\u2019 Data Act would amend the Internal Revenue Code to extend \u2018Foreign Entity of Concern\u2019 restrictions to major business tax incentives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIf you\u2019re one of those countries and you have developed a software or hardware that we are using here in the United States to garner information, to gather information, that\u2019s personal data, information of Americans, we\u2019re going to stop that,\u201d Moran said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The bill would require companies to sever ties with foreign adversary-controlled technology to remain eligible for provisions such as bonus depreciation, research and development expenses, research tax credits and interest deductibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Moran said companies need to examine the software and hardware they use, whether they are intentionally or unintentionally using foreign entity of concern technology.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caption-text\">Ray said data protection is a significant issue but suggested the focus should also be on domestic concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cameron Ray, chair of the Gregg County Democratic Party, said the bill is still early in the evaluation process and questioned whether the legislation is necessary, noting the IRS statute already in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ray said data protection is a significant issue but suggested the focus should also be on domestic concerns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think particularly if you look at the case with DOGE, of all of the US citizens data that\u2019s been taken by US citizens and has been provided to private corporations, that\u2019s a huge concern,\u201d Ray said. \u201cSo why are we not dealing more with that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ray said the legislation is more focused on tax deductions than data protection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think it\u2019s interesting that he\u2019s calling it a data bill because I don\u2019t really feel it\u2019s a data bill,\u201d Ray said. \u201cIt is a tax deduction bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KLTV.
