However, Windows hasn’t been totally left behind either. There are several ways that Windows matches, or even surpasses, Linux on the privacy and security front.

Windows encrypts your drive by default

Storing your data securely is more important than ever

We hear a lot about encrypted cloud services and encrypted messaging services, and for good reason—those services are directly exposed to the internet. They’re inherently vulnerable to attackers and anyone that wants to snoop.

However, the data on your local PC is also worth protecting, especially if you have a laptop that you carry around. It could be stolen or lost, conceivably exposing any data you have on it to whoever picks it up.

That is where local drive encryption comes in. Windows will encrypt your boot drive by default now. While it is possible to encrypt your Linux PC, you have to go looking for the setting, which dramatically decreases the likelihood that someone will use it.

                    Related

Here’s how I encrypt my Windows PC without BitLocker

You don’t need to buy Windows Pro to have secure files.

                   …

Source

Linux fans won’t admit it, but Windows wins on these 3 security fronts https://www.howtogeek.com/ways-windows-beats-linux-at-privacy-and-security/ Publish…

https://static0.howtogeekimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/windows-11-logo-with-a-key-next-to-it-and-icons-of-password-security-and-facial-recognition-around-it.jpg?w=1600&h=900&fit=crop
[48
71,57
post-226370","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-linux","tag-linux","tag-security
