This is to make things convenient by not making you enter SIM card PINs every time after a reboot. Though we didn’t get to see it in action last month. The latest Android Canary version, which just launched, changes that by showing off the feature in full.

Android 17’s automatic sim lock protection removes the hassle of manual PIN entry

As spotted by Android Authority, Google has enabled the automatic SIM lock protection feature in the latest Android Canary build. It’s accessible by tapping Security & Privacy More security & privacy Protect SIM card. For some context, SIM PIN is completely different from the phone’s unlock PIN. It can be set up on all physical SIM cards. Users need to enter the PIN whenever they reboot their phone or when they put the SIM in another phone.

Without a SIM PIN, one can’t use their SIM for phone calls, text messages, or mobile data connectivity. In case you can’t remember your SIM PIN, this is where the automatic SIM lock protection comes to your rescue.

This makes things convenient

To set up the feature, tap the Automatic PIN management toggle and authenticate using your phone’s passcode or scan your biometric. After that, you’ll see a prompt to enter your SIM card’s current PIN. If you haven’t set up a PIN yet, there will be an option to “use carrier default.” The carrier default PIN is usually 0000, 1234, 1111, or another similar type of code. Once you enter that and tap OK, that’s it. Now, Android OS will automatically enter your SIM card PIN when you enter your device’s lock code after rebooting.

You can also see the SIM card’s PIN by tapping the Show Android-managed PIN option within the Automatic SIM lock protection section. This is clearly making things convenient. That said, you still need to enter the SIM PIN if the card is inserted into another phone,…

Source

Android 17 will Make Using SIM PIN Locks Much More Convenient https://www.androidheadlines.com/2026/03/android-17-will-make-using-sim-pin-locks-much-more-convenient.html Publish Date: 2026-03-20…

[46
70,57
post-225806","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-android","tag-google","tag-security
