The White House on Friday released its long-awaited national artificial intelligence legislative framework, a move to prevent states from enacting their own laws and enforce the Trump administration\u2019s light-touch approach to AI regulation.<\/p>\n

The framework stems from an executive order President Donald Trump signed in December that blocked states from enforcing their own regulations around artificial intelligence and covers a broad spectrum of AI concerns, from data centers to AI scams.<\/p>\n

The White House\u2019s framework could have far-reaching effects on US efforts to dominate AI, which is starting to play a bigger role in everything from jobs to the stock market and the way people find information. But the technology still poses safety risks as companies race to adopt it and infuse it into their products.<\/p>\n

The administration outlined six objectives for Congress intended to balance rapid innovation with public trust, from data centers to government censorship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe White House\u2019s national AI legislative framework will unleash American ingenuity to win the global AI race, delivering breakthroughs that create jobs, lower costs, and improve lives for Americans across the country,\u201d Michael Kratsios, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The framework calls on Congress to give parents better \u201ctools\u201d to manage their children\u2019s digital presence, before calling on Congress to streamline data center permits so they can generate power on site, as well as augment existing legal efforts to combat AI-enabled scams.<\/p>\n

The administration is also proposing what it says is an approach to balance enforcing intellectual property rights with the need to train AI models using real-world content. It called on Congress to \u201cprevent the United States government from coercing technology providers, including AI providers, to ban, compel, or alter content based on partisan or ideological…<\/p>\n
