Later this year, Google is introducing new Android developer verification. For power users, Android will offer an \u201cadvanced flow\u201d to disable the verification requirement.<\/p>\n

This \u201cadvanced flow\u201d is for power users and enthusiasts who \u201cwant to take educated risks to install software from unverified developers.\u201d Google says it was \u201cdesigned carefully to prevent those in the midst of a scam attempt from being coerced by high pressure tactics to install malicious software.\u201d<\/p>\n

In these scenarios, scammers exploit fear \u2013 using threats of financial ruin, legal trouble, or harm to a loved one \u2013 to create a sense of extreme urgency. They stay on the phone with victims, coaching them to bypass security warnings and disable security settings before the victim has a chance to think or seek help.<\/p>\n

The advanced flow process starts by enabling Developer mode. Go to your Settings app About phone and find the Build number. Tap that line seven times until you see \u201cYou are now a developer!\u201d Afterwards, \u201cDeveloper options\u201d will appear under the System menu or in search.<\/p>\n

  1. You then have to confirm that you aren\u2019t being coached\/guided\/instructed by a bad actor to turn off the security measures.<\/li>\n
  2. This is followed by a device restart and re-authentication that \u201ccuts off any remote access or active phone calls a scammer might be using to watch what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/li>\n
  3. A required \u201cSecurity wait\u201d takes one day to \u201cconfirm that this is really you who\u2019s making this change with our biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock) or device PIN.\u201d This is a one-time wait.<\/li>\n
  4. Afterwards, you can install apps from unverified developers indefinitely, while there\u2019s also a 7-day \u201cTurn on temporarily\u201d option.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
