Until now, only passengers with Apple devices and Find My tracking technology could share information with airlines to help recover luggage if it went missing or got delayed. Now, at last, Android users can tap Google\u2019s new Find Hub feature to track their checked bags and share item location information with participating airlines. <\/span><\/p>\n

How it works: Purchase a Find Hub-compatible tracker (Motorola, FoundIT, and Chipolo, among others, make devices that work), connect it to your phone using Bluetooth, and put it in your checked bag before travel (for Apple users, this is the equivalent of an AirTag device). These trackers use Bluetooth signals to connect with Google\u2019s Find Hub network (just like AirTags work with Apple\u2019s global network) and then relay that info to you through the Find Hub app so you can track your item in real-time. If your bag takes a detour or gets delayed, you can share its location with your airline to help expedite recovery. <\/span><\/p>\n

Open the Find Hub app, and you can see your checked bag or suitcase on the map. Using the \u201cshare item location\u201d feature, you can create a secure link showing your bag\u2019s location and provide that to your airline through the airline\u2019s mobile app or its website (not to worry, that device location data is encrypted). Once you supply that information, airlines can use baggage-tracing systems to try to find your bag.<\/span><\/p>\n

For security, your \u201cshare item location\u201d link automatically expires after 7 days. You can also stop sharing at any point through the Find Hub app, and the sharing feature gets disabled if your phone detects that you\u2019ve been reunited with your item. <\/span><\/p>\n

A bonus for travelers: Throw your tracker in a beach bag or commuter backpack, or attach it to your bike, for instance, and use it to help with tracking and recovery if one of those items goes missing. <\/span><\/p>\n
