In June 2025, \u200bthe company reorganized its AI efforts under a division called Meta Superintelligence Labs led \u200bby former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang.<\/p>\n<p>LeCun joined Meta in 2013 to found Facebook AI Research, later known as FAIR, and became one of the company\u2019s most prominent AI \u200bleaders before departing at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Reuters, LeCun \u200bsaid AMI aims to build systems capable of reasoning and planning in complex real-world settings. \u200cHe \u2060added that current AI approaches based on predicting the next word or pixel will not produce broadly capable intelligent agents by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s near-term target customers are organizations operating complex systems, including manufacturers, automakers, aerospace companies, biomedical firms \u200band pharmaceutical groups. \u201cWe \u200bwant to become \u2060the main provider of intelligent systems, regardless of what the application is,\u201d LeCun said.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, he added, the technology \u200bcould also support consumer applications. \u201cWhat consumers could be interacting \u200bwith is \u2060a domestic robot.
