Later this year, the M6 MacBook Pro is widely rumored to be the first Mac that supports touch. But a new report indicates touchscreens may not be in Apple\u2019s plans for the MacBook Air or MacBook Neo.<\/p>\n

Apple \u2018hasn\u2019t decided\u2019 whether to expand touch beyond MacBook Pro, per Gurman<\/h2>\n

macOS 27 is expected to introduce touchscreen optimizations ahead of this fall\u2019s MacBook Pro adding a touchscreen. <\/p>\n

But according to Bloomberg, there\u2019s no guarantee of touch support coming to other Macs in the future.<\/p>\n

Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:<\/p>\n

At this point, Apple hasn\u2019t decided whether to bring touch to\u00a0any Macs beyond the MacBook Pro (a model that\u2019s slated to arrive as early as at the end of this year).<\/p>\n

Gurman mentions that the MacBook Air is slated to get OLED around 2028 or even later. So if it does get touch support, that\u2019s likely the soonest it will happen.<\/p>\n

As for the MacBook Neo, Ming Chi-Kuo once predicted that the Neo\u2019s successor would add touch support. Last week, however, he reversed course. Gurman adds: \u201cI highly doubt touch is being considered for Apple\u2019s lowest-tier Mac.\u201d<\/p>\n

9to5Mac\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n

If Apple truly hasn\u2019t yet decided on the future of touch support across the Mac line, it\u2019s likely for one simple reason: it wants to gauge reception to the M6 MacBook Pro.<\/p>\n

The Mac has gone so long without touch support already, so Apple clearly isn\u2019t in a rush to expand the feature to more devices. My assumption, though, is that if the touchscreen MacBook Pro is well received, we will see a touchscreen MacBook Air in the years ahead, followed eventually by a touch-supported Neo.<\/p>\n

Essentially, there\u2019s no rush for Apple to make a decision about the future of touch support. But my guess is that it plans to bring touch to more devices in due time.<\/p>\n
