BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles has officially transitioned its website to www.expresslane.la.gov, moving from a previous .org address to a .gov domain.<\/p>\n

The agency said the change strengthens cybersecurity protections, reinforces its official government status, and improves online visibility for residents seeking trusted information and services. The OMV said the domain change is not related to the agency\u2019s 2023 data breach or its ongoing system replacement.<\/p>\n

The .gov domain is reserved exclusively for verified government entities and is administered by the federal government. The OMV said the new address enhances protections against phishing and spoofed websites.<\/p>\n

Neal, OMV Commissioner. \u201cA .gov domain clearly signals to residents that they are interacting with an official government website they can trust and helps them distinguish legitimate OMV services from fraudulent websites.\u201d<\/p>\n

Background: 2023 MOVEit data breach<\/h2>\n

In June 2023, state leaders said the Louisiana OMV was one of an undetermined number of government entities, major businesses, and organizations affected by the MOVEit data breach. It was later revealed that Louisiana leaders knew about the cyber attack for nearly three weeks before making a public announcement.<\/p>\n

MOVEit is a third-party data transfer service used to send large files and is widely used across the country and around the world. Reports emerged of newly discovered exposures of sensitive data tied to the international cyber attack.<\/p>\n
