Apple may be planning to freshen up the look of its iMac later this year with new colour options alongside the usual hardware refresh.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Bloomberg\u2019s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing an iMac update that will feature a refreshed colour palette. This could potentially mark the first meaningful aesthetic change to the all-in-one desktop since the M4 model launched in 2024.<\/p>\n

Apple currently sells the 24-inch iMac in seven colours: blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green and silver. Those shades arrived with the M4 refresh in October 2024. However, they were largely tweaks of the original colours introduced when the redesigned M1 iMac debuted in 2021.<\/p>\n

That means the design itself hasn\u2019t changed much in recent years. Apple upgraded the chip inside the machine several times. However, the exterior colours have only been adjusted once \u2014 something the upcoming update could finally address.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not yet clear whether Apple plans to introduce entirely new colours or simply refine the existing palette again. Apple has previously taken the latter approach. In fact, the company has subtly adjusted the tone and finish of its colour lineup rather than replacing it outright.<\/p>\n

As for performance, the next iMac could also receive a chip upgrade. Apple already ships the M5 chip in several newer Macs, including the latest MacBook Air. This makes it a likely candidate for the next iMac refresh. However, Apple could also hold off until the M6 generation if it wants to deliver a bigger leap in performance.<\/p>\n

Gurman also notes that Apple is continuing to experiment with larger iMac displays and more powerful processors. However, those ideas appear to be part of longer-term plans rather than something expected in this year\u2019s update.<\/p>\n

For now, it sounds like the next iMac refresh could focus on subtle visual changes as much as internal upgrades. This could potentially give Apple\u2019s colourful…<\/p>\n
