OpenAI\u2019s<\/span> robotics lead has left the company due to its partnership with the Pentagon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Caitlin Kalinowski<\/span> announced her departure from the artificial intelligence startup in a <\/span>post<\/span> on the social media platform X Saturday (March 7).<\/span><\/p>\n

The head of OpenAI\u2019s robotics team resigned Saturday, citing the company\u2019s deal to deploy its AI models within the Pentagon\u2019s classified network as the cause.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis wasn\u2019t an easy call. AI has an important role in national security,\u201d Kalinowski wrote. \u201cBut surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A <\/span>report<\/span> by Bloomberg News says that OpenAI confirmed Kalinowski\u2019s resignation and argues the company\u2019s Defense Department agreement \u201ccreates a workable path for responsible national security uses of AI while making clear our red lines, no domestic surveillance and no autonomous weapons.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

OpenAI and the Pentagon <\/span>formed their partnership<\/span> late last month after a breakdown in negotiations between the White House and rival AI company Anthropic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anthropic had wanted the Pentagon to agree that its technology wouldn\u2019t be used for mass surveillance of Americans or for fully autonomous weapons. President Donald Trump responded by ordering government departments to cease their work with Anthropic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pentagon also labeled the startup a <\/span>supply-chain risk<\/span>, meaning any companies wanting to do business with the U.S. government would be forbidden from…<\/span><\/p>\n
