There are thousands upon thousands of Linux distributions, so when a new flavor comes into being, the first thing I check is to see what sets it apart from others.<\/p>\n

With each passing day, that\u2019s becoming harder and harder to do.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, developers never cease to amaze me with their ideas, abilities, and promises.<\/p>\n

Such is the case with AerynOS. This independent Linux distribution (meaning that it\u2019s not based on another distro) aims to be blazing fast, effortlessly powerful, and offer updates that never fail.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a tall order for nearly any Linux distribution.<\/p>\n

Does AerynOS deliver?<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s find out.<\/p>\n

What is AerynOS?<\/h2>\n

Let\u2019s first discuss what AerynOS is.<\/p>\n

AerynOS is not based on any other distribution. Because of that, AerynOS is free to create and release whatever the developers want. To that end, the team has opted to use a next-generation package manager, Moss (more on that in a bit).<\/p>\n

This distribution also features a rapid build system, called Boulder, which allows developers to create simple YAML recipes so there\u2019s less time packaging applications and more time creating them.<\/p>\n

The AerynOS distribution also does a great job of handling complex EFI configurations automatically to alleviate possible boot issues.<\/p>\n

AerynOS is a new distribution, so it\u2019s still in early development. It\u2019s not recommended to be used as a daily OS. Instead, this is a good time to check out the distribution, test it, and report any possible bugs you\u2019ve found. If bug hunting isn\u2019t your bag, you can simply see what AearynOS is all about.<\/p>\n

AerynOS defaults to the GNOME desktop, but allows you to select from a number of options during the installation, such as KDE Plasma and COSMIC. For my testing, I went with COSMIC because it\u2019s one of my favorite Linux DEs.<\/p>\n

I did go into this knowing that AerynOS isn\u2019t exactly ready for prime time, so I knew not to knock it down for instability issues. I can\u2019t tell you how many times I\u2019ve tested early iterations of…<\/p>\n
