It argued that Meta was<br \/>\nleveraging WhatsApp\u2019s dominant position \u2014 with an estimated 853<br \/>\nmillion users in India \u2014 to strengthen its advertising business and<br \/>\ndisadvantage competitors.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2024, the CCI fined Meta $25m for abusing its<br \/>\ndominant position. It also:<\/p>\n<p>Ordered behavioural remedies within three months<\/p>\n<p>Barred WhatsApp from sharing user data with Meta entities for<br \/>\nfive years<\/p>\n<p>Directed the company to clearly specify the purposes of data<br \/>\nsharing<\/p>\n<p>Meta and WhatsApp challenged the order before a company law<br \/>\ntribunal, which upheld the fine but stayed the five-year<br \/>\ndata-sharing ban.
