Kubuntu Linux is set to release a major update later this spring, and I’m excited for that release for the sake of one specific area of my desktop setup: secondary monitors. Here’s why.<\/p>\n

\n Adding monitors on Kubuntu 24.04 is less than great

One of my main workstations is a laptop running Kubuntu Linux 24.04 LTS. It’s a great experience in that the long-term support for the Ubuntu package base means I can keep using it for several years. To get specific, all 24.04 LTS flavors will keep getting standard support until 2029, plus security updates until 2034, and, with an Ubuntu Pro subscription, continued security support clean into 2039.<\/p>\n

In truth, though, I don’t actually plan on using it until the twilight of the 2030s. I’ll want to upgrade my laptop as soon as the stable version of Kubuntu 26.04 LTS gets here.<\/p>\n

The reason is that I’ve been trying to get a good multi-monitor setup going, but this version of Kubuntu has been letting me down. I have a portable monitor that I can easily move and set up wherever I’m working, and also detach for use with other devices like my Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n
