REUTERS\/Al Drago<\/p>\n<p>Feb 23 (Reuters) &#8211; U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned artificial intelligence company Anthropic&#8217;s CEO \u200cDario Amodei to the Pentagon on Tuesday \u200cfor what is expected to be potentially tough talks over the \u200bmilitary use of Anthropic&#8217;s Claude artificial intelligence tool, Axios reported on Monday, citing sources.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters reported exclusively this month that the Pentagon was pushing big AI \u200ccompanies including OpenAI and \u2060Anthropic to make their AI tools available on classified networks without many of \u2060the standard restrictions that the companies apply to users.<\/p>\n<p>Also this month, Axios reported that the Pentagon had \u200bbeen considering \u200bcutting ties with Anthropic \u200bover the latter&#8217;s insistence \u200con retaining restrictions on how the U.S. military uses its models, which includes Claude AI.<\/p>\n<p>According to its Monday report, Defense officials say the Pentagon&#8217;s talks with Anthropic are on the verge on collapsing.<\/p>\n<p>A \u200csenior Defense official told the \u200bpaper that Anthropic knows this \u200bis not a &#8220;get-to-know-you \u200bmeeting,&#8221; according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>An Anthropic spokesperson \u200csaid &#8220;we are having productive conversations, \u200bin good \u200bfaith,&#8221; according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
