It is also the first version that installs Thunderbird as additional software on each start.

Incognito, a discontinued Gentoo-based distro, launched in mid-2009. What is today called “The Amnesic Incognito Live System” (usually referred to as Tails) started when Amnesia and Incognito were merged. This project always aimed to provide the best shield against online surveillance. Based on Debian and available in over 30 languages, it only goes online using the Tor network. The Tor Project provided financial support to Tails in the beginning, alongside the Freedom of the Press Foundation, the Open Technology Fund, and Mozilla.

The first update since version 7.4.2 dropped two weeks ago, on the 11th of February. Today’s Tails 7.5 comes with a few noticeable changes, the most important one being how it handles Mozilla Thunderbird. Other highlights include version 15.0.7 of the Tor Browser, which now features a simplified home page. The Tor client version is now 0.4.9.5, and the Thunderbird mail client is now up to 140.7.1. However, there is a catch: Mozilla typically releases new versions of its email client a few days after Tails, which means that users of the secure system often have to use an outdated version of the software that has security issues.

Tails 7.5 provides better security than its predecessors to those who have Additional Software and Thunderbird turned on with Persistent Storage. This way, the latest version of the email client is installed automatically each time Tails is being powered on.

When Tails installs Thunderbird as additional software successfully, the Thunderbird Migration dialog shows up. This window also reveals the date of release for Tails 7.8, which is expected to…

Source

Tails 7.5 comes with several security improvements and updated packages https://www.notebookcheck.net/Tails-7-5-comes-with-several-security-improvements-and-updated-packages.1235866.0.html Publish Date: 2026-02-26 14:21:00…

[48
91,92,71,57
post-217761","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-linux","tag-debian","tag-gentoo","tag-linux","tag-security
