With over 25 years of experience, Scott Cann will take over as the new vice president for Information Technology Services (ITS) effective April 1.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy reaction was one of incredible gratitude and excitement,\u201d he said. \u201cMy time here at BC has been so rewarding, and I am looking forward to serving the University in this new capacity.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cann, associate vice president of systems and services in ITS, will succeed Michael Bourque, who announced this past November that he will retire in March after 23 years of service.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his new role, Cann will be responsible for ensuring the department provides technology and services that effectively support the BC community. The department will also prioritize strong partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to advance the University\u2019s mission.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy priorities will center on maintaining stability of services and continuity of operations in balance with the momentum of emerging technologies,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Executive Vice President Michael Lochhead said Cann was chosen after looking at many chief information and technology officers at peer universities and other organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew we needed to find a leader who not only understood the mission of Boston College but could help advance it through their work and leadership,\u201d Lochhead said in a University <\/span>release<\/span>. \u201cScott Cann was the logical choice and someone whom I have great confidence in to help sustain the customer-focused community within ITS.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cann said artificial intelligence (AI) has become a major focus of the department, with ITS facilitating two working groups that brought together faculty and staff to collaborate on AI initiatives. Those groups have helped launch several AI tools for campus use, created a centralized AI hub, and hosted the BC Talks AI conference.<\/span><\/p>\n
