The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s creation of
\nthe Cybersecurity & Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU) marks a
\ndecisive shift in how regulators approach artificial intelligence.
\nWhat began as marketing optimism has become a regulated space with
\nreal enforcement teeth. CETU’s mission includes investigating
\nAI fraud, AI-themed scams, cybersecurity deception, and false or
\nmisleading statements about emerging technologies.<\/p>\n

Central to this new landscape is the emergence of AI
\nwashing\u2014the practice of overstating, exaggerating, or
\ninventing the capabilities of artificial intelligence systems. Much
