Zakk Wylde clarifies stance on Artificial Intelligence: “Fine”<\/a><\/p>\n

Zakk Wylde has clarified where he stands on the use of Artificial Intelligence in music, suggesting that experimentation is fine, but it will \u201cnever replace the real thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wylde, Ozzy Osbourne\u2019s longtime guitarist and close friend and the leader of Black Label Society, took part in a question-and-answer session at the HMV on Oxford Street, London, when he was asked to explain his stance on Artificial Intelligence.<\/p>\n

As per Blabbermouth, the musician began, \u201cAI is fine. It would almost kind of be like if me and you were sitting around going, \u2018Hey, guys, can you write a song you think Black Sabbath would write?\u2019 So it\u2019s no different than that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Running with the Black Sabbath example, he expanded, \u201cBut you\u2019re never gonna be able to replace what is coming out of Ozzy\u2019s mind, what\u2019s coming out of Tony Iommi\u2019s mind, what Geezer [Butler\u2019s] thinking when he\u2019s gonna write lyrics, and how Bill\u2019s [Ward\u2019s] gonna approach the drums on a riff, what kind of drum beat he\u2019s gonna play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Translating this into the value of human creativity, he went on, \u201c\u2018Cause when you get a record from whatever your favorite artist or your favorite band [is], you\u2019re getting a piece of them. So you can\u2019t ever replace that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Running through another hypothetical of creating AI Pantera music, he also added, \u201cYou can\u2019t replace what\u2019s coming out of\u00a0Elton John\u2019s mind, what he wants to sit down and play on a piano and what\u00a0Bernie Taupin\u2019s gonna write lyrically. That\u2019s the beauty of the human element of music.\u201d<\/p>\n

The creative process, Wylde insisted to the crowd of fans, is \u201cthe real thing. You can never replace the real thing.\u201d Finishing comedically, Wylde quipped: \u201cMy wife has no problem replacing me with various other people and things, but as long as she\u2019s happy, that\u2019s all that matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
