AI rivals Anthropic and OpenAI have launched a war of ads trying to court corporate America during one of the biggest entertainment nights of the year.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Anthropic has launched a series of ads going hard at its rival.<\/p>\n

For the scrawny 23-year-old who wants a six-pack, a ripped older man who is supposed to depict a chatbot suggests insoles that \u201chelp short kings stand tall\u201d because \u201cconfidence isn\u2019t just built in the gym\u201d. And for the man trying to improve communication with his mom: his therapist prescribes \u201ca mature dating site that connects sensitive cubs with roaring cougars\u201d in case he can\u2019t fix that relationship.<\/p>\n

All four ads end with the same tagline: \u201cAds are coming to AI. But not to Claude.\u201d There\u2019s no explicit mention of ChatGPT, but the subtext is clear.<\/p>\n

Even Sam Altman laughed. But he also called the ads \u201cso clearly dishonest\u201d before diving into a lengthy critique on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur most important principle for ads says that we won\u2019t do exactly this; we would obviously never run ads in the way Anthropic depicts them,\u201d Altman wrote. \u201cWe are not stupid and we know our users would reject that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Altman stressed that OpenAI\u2019s decision to include ads, announced last month, makes the product more accessible. \u201cWe believe everyone deserves to use AI and are committed to free access,\u201d he wrote. And Altman didn\u2019t shy away from taking some shots of his own. \u201cAnthropic serves an expensive product to rich people. We are glad they do that and we are doing that too, but we also feel strongly that we need to bring AI to billions of people who can\u2019t pay for subscriptions,\u201d he wrote. (Claude has a free subscription version, too.)<\/p>\n

ChatGPT\u2019s ad policy is not live yet, but OpenAI maintains on its website that ads will be \u201cseparate and clearly labeled\u201d and won\u2019t influence the answers users see. The company also states that it will not…<\/p>\n
