Consumer Reports recently led a coalition of privacy and consumer groups <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in support of the bill<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cConsumer Reports applauds the Virginia Senate for advancing this key consumer privacy legislation,\u201d said Matt Schwartz, policy analyst at Consumer Reports. \u201cIt is extremely dangerous that data brokers collect extensive records of our daily movements that they sell to the highest bidder. This practice needs to stop. We thank <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virginia Senator Russet Perry for her leadership on this bill and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">urge the Virginia House to advance the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act without delay.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If signed into law, Virginia would join Maryland and Oregon in banning the sale of precise geolocation information.
