OpenAI<\/span> CEO <\/span>Sam Altman<\/span> said Monday (Feb. 2) that the artificial intelligence startup is satisfied with <\/span>Nvidia<\/span>\u2019s AI chips.<\/span><\/p>\n

The post came after Reuters <\/span>reported<\/span> earlier in the day that OpenAI was <\/span>unsatisfied<\/span> with the chips and <\/span>has<\/span> been <\/span>looking for<\/span> alternative suppliers since last year.<\/span> The report cited eight unnamed sources.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the report, OpenAI is not satisfied with the speed <\/span>with<\/span> which Nvidia chips deliver answers to <\/span>ChatGPT<\/span> users<\/span>, <\/span>has developed agreements with <\/span>AMD<\/span> and other GPU suppliers<\/span>, <\/span>and has <\/span>had<\/span> talks with <\/span>Cerebras<\/span>, <\/span>Groq<\/span> and other chip suppliers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nvidia told Reuters, per the report: \u201cCustomers continue to choose Nvidia for inference because we deliver the best performance and total cost of ownership at scale.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

An OpenAI spokesperson said in the report that Nvidia powers most of OpenAI\u2019s inference fleet and provides the best performance per dollar for inference.<\/span><\/p>\n

OpenAI <\/span>said Jan.<\/span> 14 that it will integrate 750 megawatts of ultra-low latency <\/span>compute<\/span> from Cerebras to accelerate the response <\/span>time<\/span> of its AI models.<\/span><\/p>\n

In October, OpenAI <\/span>launched<\/span> a multibillion-dollar partnership with AMD <\/span>that<\/span> will see the companies develop AI data centers <\/span>running on<\/span> AMD <\/span>processors<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It <\/span>was reported<\/span> Sunday (Feb. 1) that Nvidia CEO <\/span>Jensen Huang<\/span> said his company\u2019s proposed $100 billion <\/span>investment<\/span> into OpenAI was \u201cnever a commitment\u201d and that \u201cwe will invest one step at a time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
