If you\u2019re seeing a lot of photos of stacks of Mac mini machines filling the internet, that\u2019s been sparked by the development of Clawdbot by Peter Steinberger. It\u2019s an open-source project that allows you to run your own personal AI assistant, and multiple M4 Mac minis seem to be the hardware of choice.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the very definition of a nerdy project, and the memes doing the rounds very much reflect this \u2013 though it seems not everybody is amused \u2026<\/p>\n

Clawdbot aka Moltbot<\/h2>\n

Steinberger describes Clawdbot as a single-user AI assistant.<\/p>\n

Clawdbot is a personal AI assistant you run on your own devices. It answers you on the channels you already use (WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Google Chat, Signal, iMessage, Microsoft Teams, WebChat), plus extension channels like BlueBubbles, Matrix, Zalo, and Zalo Personal. It can speak and listen on macOS\/iOS\/Android, and can render a live Canvas you control. The Gateway is just the control plane \u2014 the product is the assistant.<\/p>\n

If you want a personal, single-user assistant that feels local, fast, and always-on, this is it.<\/p>\n

It can be run on any platform under any OS.<\/p>\n

Implementing the assistant is no trivial task, and if you\u2019re considering it, I would highly recommend reading Federico Vittici\u2019s piece to get a sense of the work involved.<\/p>\n
