It follows the release of version 1.8.0 of the GParted application this week, and the distro release includes updates to the package base and some important bug fixes.

GParted Live is getting an update to the Debian repository it uses as its base: Sid. That’s the name for Debian’s unstable trunk, meaning the Sid package base is a lot more bleeding-edge than the current Debian stable edition, Trixie. Sid gets new package revisions multiple times a day, and this specific update brings GParted’s package base up to Sid’s state as of January 27, 2026. That way, you have the latest version of GParted, which is the 1.8.0 update that came out just a few days ago.

Going beyond the repository bump, this update also brings GParted Live up to version 6.18 of the Linux kernel. There’s a fix for a blank screen issue too, but the release notes include a remark copied from the 6.17 release stating that there’s an issue with viewing help from the Help Contents menu option. Instead, if you need help with GParted Live, you should visit GParted documentation in your browser for the time being.

The updates to the GParted program itself include fixes for an issue with crashes happening due to icon loading failures, and for a hang that was happening when attempts to label FAT partitions matched root folder entries. GParted also will now “Erase file system signatures before all FileSystem copies,” according to the release notes. Those are linked below if you want more info.

In case you aren’t familiar, GParted is the name of a partition editing tool, and Gparted Live is a fully bootable Linux distribution purpose-built for running the app. With the GParted app, you can erase, create, rename, and resize file system partitions on a computer’s disks. There’s support for many file systems, including ext4, Btrfs, FAT32, exFAT, and Windows’ NTFS.

          …

Source

The live Linux distro for editing disks just got a big update https://www.howtogeek.com/live-linux-distro-for-editing-disks-gparted-live-1-8-released/ Publish Date:…

https://static0.howtogeekimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/wm/2025/08/a7308455.jpg?w=1600&h=900&fit=crop
[48
91,71
post-207462","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-linux","tag-debian","tag-linux
