The Intel chips came out ahead in two out of the three.

In the Cinebench 24 multi-core benchmark, the highest score was achieved by the Core Ultra X9 388H, which came in at 1285 against the M5’s 922. In the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test, the same Intel chip hit 5883 against the M5’s 5077.

The same tests, however, make it clear that Intel shouldn’t be breaking out the champagne. Its latest chips are easily beaten by the Apple M4 Pro, and will clearly be left in the dust by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips we’re expecting to see launched in the new MacBook Pro models, perhaps as soon as Wednesday.

Extrapolating from the improvements seen between the M4 and its beefier brothers suggests that the M5 Max MacBook Pro is likely to deliver “astounding” Geekbench scores.

Image: 9to5Mac/Intel/Sincerely Media on Unsplash

FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links.
