The City of Winkler says municipal offices will remain closed for the rest of the week as work continues to restore systems following the cybersecurity incident announced Wednesday.
City Manager Jody Penner provided the update Thursday morning, saying City Hall, Public Works, and the Meridian Exhibition Centre office will remain closed today and Friday while staff continue responding to the incident.
Departments continue operating
Despite the office closures, Penner said city operations are continuing.
“All departments remain operational, and staff are continuing to work; only offices are not currently working at full staff.”
The city added that all on-call numbers remain available for emergencies.

Investigation continues
The update comes one day after the City of Winkler announced it had experienced a cybersecurity incident affecting portions of its information technology systems.
In response, the city isolated the affected systems, engaged external cybersecurity experts, notified law enforcement, and temporarily locked down its phone and payment systems while the investigation continues.
Mayor Henry Siemens said Wednesday that the city had not yet determined the nature of the incident or whether any employee, customer, utility, or tax information had been compromised. He noted that the incident was detected early and that essential services, including drinking water, fire, and police response, remain unaffected.
The city has said additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
