A new report claims the company is planning a redesigned base 14-inch model in the first half of 2027.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing a visual overhaul for the entry-level model rather than simply refreshing the internals.

While details of the redesign remain under wraps, the report suggests the laptop will adopt the styling expected to debut on higher-end MacBook Pro models. These are launching before then.

If accurate, it would be one of the biggest updates to Apple’s entry-level Pro laptop in years. The current model already benefits from Apple Silicon performance, but its overall design has remained largely familiar. A refreshed chassis would help narrow the gap between the most affordable MacBook Pro and Apple’s higher-end offerings.

The redesign could also arrive alongside some much bigger changes to Apple’s laptop range. Gurman says the company is still expected to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook around the M6 generation. However, it’s not yet clear whether that feature will make its way to the entry-level Pro. It might remain exclusive to more expensive models.

The MacBook isn’t the only product reportedly in Apple’s pipeline. The company is also said to be testing four new iPad Pro models. Although the focus appears to be on performance upgrades rather than a major redesign, the existing 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes are expected to stay.

Spring has increasingly become an important launch window for Apple. Earlier this year, the company unveiled several products in quick succession, including the MacBook Neo, new iPads, updated MacBook Pros and a new iPhone. If Gurman’s report proves accurate, spring 2027 could follow a similar pattern.
