Apple is testing four new models for a spring 2027 launch, keeping the 11-inch and 13-inch sizes with faster chips inside Apple’s 2027 lineup just got clearer. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports the company is testing four new iPad Pro models for a spring launch, plus a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro that could arrive in the first half of the year. Both fit into what’s shaping up as Apple’s biggest hardware year yet, built around the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. The iPad Pro keeps its looks. All four models stick with the 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, and there’s no redesign in the works. The upgrades are internal: faster chips, and likely the vapor chamber cooling Apple has already tested to hold performance and keep heat down. The line last changed in October 2025 with the M5, so a spring slot also moves it out of the crowded holiday quarter.
The MacBook Pro is where it gets interesting
The laptop carries the real news. Apple wrapped a base MacBook Pro months ago, codenamed J804, running an M6 chip on the existing design and due late 2026. The 2027 model, codenamed K104, is the redesigned one. This 14-inch machine takes on the design language of Apple’s coming touchscreen MacBook Pro, though the cheaper version probably drops the touchscreen.
The M7 rush tells the bigger story
The chip timeline is the giveaway. Apple is fast-tracking its M7 silicon, tuned for on-device AI, and wants the first M7 Macs out in the first half of 2027. That’s quick. The M6 cycle is short and skips Pro and Max versions entirely, so the higher tiers jump straight to M7, which brings stronger neural accelerators and a sizable lift in memory bandwidth. The usual caveat holds. The memory and chip shortages hitting the industry could still move these dates. But if Apple stays on track, the new iPad Pro and redesigned MacBook Pro headline a loaded 2027 that also brings the iPhone 18 line and a second-generation iPhone Air.
