The System76 Lemur Pro is a thin and light Linux laptop that’s been around in one form or another for about six years. But this year System76 is bringing the biggest updates to its little laptop yet… in more ways than one.

First of all, the newest version of the notebook is powered by an Intel Panther Lake processor, with support for up to an Intel Core Ultra X7 358H chip, which should bring a big boost in CPU and graphics performance. But System76 is also now offering two screen sizes: the Lemur Pro now comes in 14 inch and 16 inch versions.

The 14 inch model comes with a 1920 x 1200 pixel display panel, while the 16 inch version has a 2560 x 1600 pixel screen. Otherwise the two laptops are mostly the same, with a few significant differences.

Both have matte screens, backlit keyboards with multitouch trackpads, and both ship standard with 32GB of LPDDR5x-7467 memory and both have an M.2 2280 slot for up to 4TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage.

And both models continue to be lightweight laptops, but the 14 inch version is thinner and lighter, weighing just 1kg (2.2 pounds) and measuring 17mm (0.67″) thick, while the 16 inch model is a 1.34kg (3 pound) laptop that measures 20mm (0.77″) thick.

The larger model also has a number pad on the keyboard, while the smaller version does not. And there’s an important difference in processor options.

An entry-level 14 inch Lemur Pro comes with an 8-core Intel Core Ultra 325 processor with 4-core Intel integrated graphics, but users can pay extra for a 16-core Intel Core Ultra X7 358H processor featuring 12-core Intel Arc B390 graphics. But the 16 inch version of the laptop is only available with that higher-performance chip.

Other features that are shared by both versions include a 73 Wh battery, and 65W USB Type-C power adapter, a 2MP webcam, support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and a set of ports that includes Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C and Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, and a 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card…
